Holiday Host Volunteer Program
What is the Holiday Host program?
The Holiday Host program connects newcomers with Canadian families to enjoy the festive season together. Canadian individuals or families that would like to invite newcomers into their home are matched with newcomer individuals or families who want to join them for a meal, party, or festive activity over the holiday season. It is a great way for both Canadians and newcomers to learn about a different culture and meet new people!
Who can participate in the Holiday Host program?
Any individual or family new to Canada that would like to be invited for a meal or party is welcome to request a Holiday Host. A Holiday Host is any Canadian individual or family who wants to open their home to share the holidays with newcomers to Canada.
When and where does the Holiday Host program take place?
The meal or party invitation usually falls between December 23rd and January 1st, depending on what works best for the Holiday Host. Most Holiday Hosts live in Charlottetown, but some live elsewhere on PEI. If you are a newcomer and you need transportation, let us know and we will match you with a Holiday Host that can provide it for you.
Why is Holiday Host such a great program?
The Holiday Host program offers the local community the chance to welcome their new neighbours from around the world! It is a one-time volunteer opportunity – no long-term commitment required. As a newcomer, you can meet new people, try different foods, and experience the holidays in Canada in a warm and welcoming place. It’s a great opportunity for cultural exchange, and to have fun!
