Workshops for Employers
A Global Workforce on PEI — the Benefits of Inclusion
Newcomers entering the Island workforce bring benefits such as innovation, multiple languages, determination, and business connections to potential partners, suppliers and customers. A diverse workplace is a key factor in becoming an employer of choice, and it reflects PEI's changing clientele and communities in your workforce.
An integrated team from PEIANC comprised of Employment Assistance Service (EAS) staff and Multicultural Education Program staff provide a range of workshops and inclusion training for Island businesses. Sessions may be taken individually or in sequence.
EAS Employment Counsellors support Island employers by providing workplaces with:
- Information on the benefits of cross-cultural talents and experience
- Methods to improve cross-cultural competence for all employees
- Skills to create functional and diverse workplaces to retain newcomer employees
Support for a Multicultural Workplace
PEIANC staff provide an overview of PEIANC services to workplaces, employers, and employees. This workshop will cover the immigration context on PEI, followed by an opportunity for participants to ask questions. Presentations average sixty minutes in length, or may be longer (half or full day) or shorter, according to your organization's requirements.
Workplace Culture Workshop: Retention
This workshop is interactive and uses a variety of learning and skills building approaches. The goal is to raise self-awareness of bias amongst your employees, create welcoming workplaces, and support employers in the effective retention of newcomer employees. Workshops are tailored according to number of attendees and your organization's requirements.
Building a Competent Multicultural Workplace
This workshop offers practical tips for fostering a cross-culturally competent workplace. Workplace culture is complex. There are visible components to workplace culture such as how employees dress and interact with each other and with customers. There are also invisible components such as expectations about punctuality and socializing with co-workers, or how to support or give feedback to your employee or team members. After taking this workshop, employees and managers will feel more empowered and at ease ensuring they are creating an inclusive workplace.
