Here. Now. The Art of Newcomers to PEI
Exhibition at the Gallery @ the Guild
Posted: Friday 26th February 2010 11:07
Artworks by artists from Japan, Korea and Colombia, among several others, will be featured at a new exhibit opening at the Gallery @ The Guild on March 5th.
Organized and curated by the PEI Council of the Arts (PEICA), Here. Now. The Art of Newcomers to PEI has become a much-anticipated March feature at the Gallery. Of special note in this fourth edition of the show is a large artwork entitled A Japanese View of Prince Edward Island by Tomoyo Suzuki and a series of paintings based on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage in Spain by Marie Gauthier.
This year, for the first time, an Artist-in-Residence will be an added feature of the exhibit. Mauricio Aristizábal [image above: El señor de la máquina (The Lord of the Machine)], who moved to Canada from Colombia in 2007 and whose work has been featured in past newcomers' shows, was selected in a competitive process to be the PEICA Artist-in-Residence for the month of March. Aristizábal will be creating new artworks in the Artist-in-Residence studio, located immediately behind the gallery, on the lower level of The Guild building. Visitors are welcome to observe the artist at work, to talk about art in general, or his work specifically, from noon to 1pm daily or by appointment.
Here. Now. The Art of Newcomers to PEI will be on display at the Gallery @ The Guild from March 5 to March 28. All are invited to an opening reception from 4 - 6pm on Friday, March 5th. Please come and meet the artists while enjoying some fine artwork from our newest residents.
