Newcomer Students Take the Stage in Colonel Grey High School
Inclusion at its Best

This year, when Colonel Grey High School mounted its bi-yearly musical, it didn’t know the positive impact it would have on student inclusion within the school. Twenty-five students—recent immigrants to PEI—stepped up and participated in all aspects of the production, 'My Son Pinocchio', including on the stage as actors, in the band, on the production team, and in makeup and costuming.
Director Peter Krauskopf was quoted on CBC Compass as saying, "It is the first year we've been an international cast and crew." He was thrilled with the participation.
Many of the newcomer students involved reported that being a part of the big musical was "a great experience" and that they had, "made new friends who were Canadian." Nora Wotton, a Colonel Grey English-as-Additional-Language teacher quoted in the same article on Compass, said, "They had a lot of fun…and their English skills have really improved."
Another Colonel Grey newcomer student, Lindsay Lin, won the musical's poster contest held earlier this spring. Her art, voted on by all Colonel Grey students, went on to advertise the musical. Along with the prestige of winning the contest, and seeing her work postered all over Charlottetown, Lindsay also won $100 for her effort.
PEI ANC wants to congratulate all Colonel Grey Students!
