An Islander By Choice Wins Order of Prince Edward Island

Dr. David Wong is one of three proud recipients of the 2011 Order of Prince Edward Island. The award recognizes those Islanders who have shown individual excellence or outstanding leadership in their community and in their chosen occupation or profession. It is the highest honour that can be accorded to a citizen of the Province.
After living on the Island for a year, Dr. David Wong made Summerside his home in 1986. He quickly proved indispensable to very young children and their families, as the only paediatrician in the area. Without Dr. Wong's passionate efforts and tireless dedication, Prince County Hospital would not have established a neonatal unit when it did or, in time, an Asthma Education Centre. In 1995 he set up the Dr. Wong Education Fund to provide funding to nurses so they could continue their education. These and other exceptional contributions were in Dr. Wong's official citation.
The other Islanders selected to receive this honour were: Eleanor Davies of Stratford and William C. Callbeck of Central Bedeque.
