ESL Volunteer Tutoring Program

The PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada and the Confederation Centre Public Library partner to provide an English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) Volunteer Tutoring Program to help adult newcomers learn English (school aged children have access to ESL tutoring within the school system).

To become a Volunteer Tutor with the ESL Tutoring Program, you have to go through the following steps:

  • Attend a tutor information session
  • Attend all sessions of a tutor training course (5 sessions: 14-16 hours)
  • Submit required documents prior to tutoring: three personal reference checks; criminal record check (free of charge); signed Confidentiality Agreement Form

Your commitment as a Volunteer Tutor:

  • Complete our tutor training course
  • Provide ESL tutoring to an adult learner two hours per week
  • Plan lessons and activities for your learner
  • Keep records of your learner's progress
  • Provide follow up on your learner’s progress
