The Return of BARAKA

The second annual BARAKA Day celebration will be held at Le Carrefour de l’Isle St.-Jean (in École François-Buote) on Saturday, March 1st, 2008. BARAKA Day is an occasion to celebrate the long-time association between Prince Edward Island and Africa, extending from the days of slavery on the Island, two centuries ago, to the present-day influx of students and immigrants of African origin. The co-sponsoring organizations are the Black Islanders Cooperative and Farmers Helping Farmers, in association with CUSO, the PEI Newcomers’ Association, and the City of Charlottetown. Admission to the Fair portion of BARAKA Day is FREE. Le Carrefour d’immigration rurale Évangéline vous invite à participer à la soirée des étudiants internationaux de l’Université de Moncton. Cette soirée rassemble différentes cultures du monde. En plus du buffet international, un superbe spectacle multiculturel vous propose des chorégraphies, des défilés traditionnels, des sketchs, de mises en scène, des comédies musicales avec plusieurs artistes. Découvrez les particularités de plusieurs cultures à travers le monde. Le transport sera fourni par Charlie McNeil Tours de Richmond. Il s’agit d’une quarantaine de place alors svp appelez Bernice Arsenault au 902-854-2870 pour réserver votre place aussitôt possible! On demande que les enfants âgés de 15 ans et moins soient accompagnés par un parent et que les enfants de 16 ans et plus puissent montrer une autorisation écrite des parents. International Women's Day organizers are pleased to announce that Susan Howatt will speak at this year's IWD celebration on Saturday, March 8th at the Georgian Room, Charlottetown Hotel. This year’s event will honour Island women who are leaders in the environmental movement.

All the spaces available for Saturday’s ski trip are FULL. We are sorry to not be able to accommodate more people. You may contact Erica to be placed on a waiting list -- All newcomers, host volunteers, and families are invited for an afternoon of cross-country skiing and sledding at the Brookvale Nordic Centre. Busses will meet at the Holland College parking lot at 1:00pm on January 26th. For those taking their own vehicles, note that the event takes place NOT at the alpine (downhill) center, but the Nordic (cross-country) center about .5 km past the alpine center. This event is free unless you would like to buy your own food or drinks. For those unable to ski there will be other games organized. Cancellation date will be February 2nd...

The Annual Chinese New Year celebration will be held by the Chinese Canadian Association of PEI on February 10 at the Murphy Center. Celebration begins at 11:00am.
