Centred Screening Series - Features ‘First Voices’ Documentary
Six aboriginal youth from 18 to 25 from Atlantic Canada, Guatemala, and Chile were equipped with digital video cameras and the technical know-how to venture forth and document their communities. After gathering footage from their various communities, they came together in January of 2007 in Atlantic Canada when ACIC hosted the southern indigenous youth from Guatemala and Chile. This multicultural and multilingual group created a 22 minute documentary filled with their own voices and images. The result is a beautiful and informative set of short-stories, one from each project participant about their aboriginal communities from as far away as Chile, and as close to home as Prince Edward Island. The documentary was created with the help of The Centre for Art Tapes in Halifx NS.
The screening will also include a program of short film and video works from PEI and across Canada based on the Community and Culture theme. Selections come from media arts centres such as Faucet Media Arts, Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, The Yukon Film Society, and of course IMAC! As always there will be tasty food provided, and the November Artist Challenger is Louise Lalonde who will be presenting her work Recipe for Disaster.
