International Women's Day organizers are pleased to announce that Susan Howatt will speak at this year's IWD celebration on Saturday, March 8th at the Georgian Room, Charlottetown Hotel. This year’s event will honour Island women who are leaders in the environmental movement.

Susan Howatt is the national water campaigner with the Council of Canadians, the largest citizen watchdog group in Canada. Before joining the Council, she volunteered with CUSO where she worked as the international human rights campaigner with the Indonesian Mining Advocacy Network (Jatam), a member of Friends of the Earth International. She has worked extensively in media and communications for anti-poverty, environmental and human rights groups in Vancouver and served as a human rights observer in Chiapas, Mexico. Ms. Howatt is originally from Kensington, PEI and Islanders are happy to welcome her back to the Island for this special occasion. "We are thrilled that Susan will be here to share a global perspective on women leaders in environmental movements", said Marian White of CUSO and a member of the PEI IWD Committee.
