Newcomer Youth Video Addresses Teenage Stereotypes

We may be #youngbut. . .

10/04/2018

A group of students from Colonel Gray High School, in partnership with the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada, created a video addressing youth stereotypes entitled #youngbut.

The video was made as part of the Equitas International Centre for Human Rights Education Speaking Rights program.

The youth-led project was focused on human rights and any concerns the youth identified as issues in the community. After many lengthy conversations around human rights and current local issues, the engaged and committed group chose to create an awareness video to address stereotypes that society has placed on teenagers; stereotypes that are unfair, limiting, and inaccurate. PEIANC partnered with the very talented Mahdi Selseleh as producer and editor.

The group worked for months researching and conducting interviews. The project is one of 15 created across Canada as part of the Montreal-based human rights organization Equitas, which provided $2,500 in funding.
